Guidline to password protect web directories

1. Purpose:

Sometimes you want to restrict other people access to the folder that contains important data on your Hosting. The following article will guide you to prevent unwanted access by creating passwords for web directories.

2. The steps are:

Step 1: Log in Cpanel-> The other managements tool-> Create a password for the web directory

  Then you will see the directories on your hosting.

Step 2: Select the folders to be protected with a password. Examples joomla

Check the box Password protect this directory and name the folder is protected. Then select Save

 

Next you need to create a username and password. You will use this username and password to access the directory should be protected.

Then select Add / modify Authorized user. Now that you've successfully created. Select Go Back

Looking below you will see your newly created username. And you can create more user anymore, the user name will be displayed in this table.

When done successfully with protected directory will have padlock icon

Step 3: From now on every time you want to access this folder you need to enter a valid username and password.

 

Removing lock protection: you just uncheck the box Password protect this directory in Step 2 and delete all users in the table with Delete user
